About The Secret

We are duly proud of our accomplishments, as one of the leading arts organizations in South Florida, in presenting regular exhibitions of works by our members and friends, an array of classes, and arts events specifically for children, as well as the community at large. This is due largely to the support of our members, and the community we serve. As a non-profit organization, The Broward Art Guild relies on this support in many forms for our livelihood. While we celebrate this 60 year milestone, and with our most sincere thanks for the support and encouragement we have received over this period, we now seek your help.

We are planning a unique fundraiser to be held on November 5, 2011. This event, “The Secret Art Show,” will focus on the sale of “secret” works of art in the form of unsigned 5” x 7” pieces of art by local and internationally known artists. We are asking you to consider contributing one (or more) pieces for this event. The proposal is to collect as many submissions as possible from visual artists, so that we can display them on the internet and in the Broward Art Guild Gallery here in Fort Lauderdale.


The art should be signed on the back, and should also include a brief biography of the artist (submitted with the piece) so that the purchaser will be able to learn more about the artist creating the work. The work itself can be any subject, any medium, just as long as it measures 5” x 7”. The rest is up to your creativity and imagination!

Both the web page, and the exhibit itself, will withhold the identity of the artist producing the work, (hence the term “secret”) until the time a piece has been purchased. The key here is that the art itself will be the sole criteria on which the decision to purchase is made…the artist’s identity will be the secret prize inside the proverbial box!

The works will be displayed in the Broward Art Guild Gallery, we will be hosting a gala reception, to which all contributing artists will be invited as our guests (others will be asked to donate $10.00 for admission).

The highlight of this reception will include the “sale” of these works. The process will be handled in lottery fashion, with each buyer purchasing a ticket for $50.00 each. As each ticket is drawn, the owner of the ticket will select a “secret” work from the exhibit, only then to learn the identity of the artist who created the piece.

It is our hope that you will submit your work to the Broward Art Guild at 3280 NE 32nd Street, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33308 Works can also be dropped off at Broward Art Guild (Regular business hours are Wednesday through Saturday, Noon-6:00pm). Please ensure that your piece has been received no later than October 19, 2011. The sooner you submit your work, the sooner we can post it on our event web page. We invite you to share this information with others who may wish to participate in this exciting event as well. All are welcome!
